And the cat is out of the bag. After two days of speculation and guesswork – hype induced by the sudden drop of the BL tease that the Marketing Team behind Black Sheep. A buzz that sent practically the whole of the Pinoy BL Community into a frenzy to gather what crumbs could be gathered from the complex trail that a few seconds of chalk work on a field of teal could do.

Update: New Teaser released

Hello Stranger officially becomes Black Sheep’s first venture into the Boys Love craze that has been growing all over Southeast Asia in recent years. This is perfect timing since the Philippines seems to be gearing up into full speed with a string of BL titles already in progress and various stages of production. What is surprising is that, while other production companies have been sending out feelers months in advance, Black Sheep threw a curveball by dropping a vague teaser out of thin air.

That move did not go unnoticed as the hashtag #BlacksheepBL trended in the country for a while that very same night. PsychoMilk’s SCOOP that was filled with speculations and guesswork was retweeted, commented on, and was shared across BL Groups on Facebook. The smart strategy I should say from a company that is known for providing alternative films for a generation that I could only describe as rabidly curious and impatient for predictable things.

Black Sheep, the sister company to Star Cinema under ABS-CBN Films, has been known to be innovative, and this surprise was no less than magical in execution.

And mind you, I am very sure we are in for more surprises as this project has apparently been under lock and key for a long time. Hidden from any radar, the team has been working on Hello Stranger for quite a while – what with an expected airing date of June 24; exactly ten days after the first tease, Hello Stranger is an explosion waiting to happen. From a company that consistently delivers quality content, what more can we expect?

The digital series stars Tony Labrusca, JC Alcantara, and Vivoree Esclito with a host of other up and coming young actors from the roster of talents that the ABS-CBN family manages including singer/actor, Patrick Quiroz, enigmatic beauty, Gillian Vicencio and social media influencer/actor, Migs Almendras. Hello Stranger is directed by 2 Cool 2B 4gotten director, Petersen Vargas.

We have barely a week before we see what characters these young actors play and how they present a story in a time when we are practically confined to our homes.  However, knowing the past works not only from the company but from the director and these young stars – we are surely in for a ride.

Stay updated as we get up close and personal to these cast members and the director himself in the days to come. Until then, let us all squeal as one – Hello Stranger!

Boyslove has become a part of my lifestyle, so much so that I am currently part of the revolution that will eventually put Filipino BL into mainstream attention.
